SWEDISH FOLK ART
Swedish Folk Art Dalecarlian style dates back to 1780. Huge floral motifs characterized these paintings. The large groups of flowers are called "kurbits" and are derived from the biblical scene in which Jonah sat in the desert and the Lord caused a kurbit (gourd vine) to grow, protecting him from the sun. Throughout the paintings, both biblical and secular, the kurbits represent God's blessings and protection.
